PUPILS from a Droitwich school are celebrating after taking the top prize at a book quiz held at County Hall.

A dozen Westacre Middle School students visited the Worcestershire Council Chamber after helping shortlist the winning book for ‘Worcestershire’s Awesomest Book Award’.

After a vote, the children chose ‘The Great Chocoplot’ by Chris Callaghan as the winner and author, Mark Lowery, came to the school to chat to the children and sign copies.

After helping shortlist the book, the dozen students then took part in a book quiz against other county schools and took home gold medals.

Deputy Head, Paul Barber, said: “As a school, we are aware of the importance of children both enjoying and making progress in their reading and continually encourage children to read as much as they can.

“So for our pupils to receive this award, we are exceptionally proud!

“A massive thank you and congratulations to our School Librarian Mrs Phillips for helping to organise this event and to our pupil librarians for creating such a buzz around school about books and for their efforts during this exciting day out.”
