TOWN Crier Edgar Harwood was the guest speaker at the latest meeting of Droitwich Spa Inner Wheel.
Mr Harwood, who was dressed in all his regalia, spoke about his four decades in the civic role and the history of town criers and what they meant to communities over the years.
He decided to take up the role after comments during his army career about the ‘carrying qualities’ of his voice.
Halfway through the evening he changed into his alternative ‘toastmaster’ uniform and told amusing anecdotes of things which had happened at weddings where he had been in charge of proceedings.
A Droitwich Spa Inner Wheel spokesperson said: “It was a fascinating and thoroughly enjoyable evening.”
