A FAMILY of six and two dogs escaped from a house fire which broke out in Droitwich in the early hours of Monday morning (July 7).
The incident happened at 1am at the home in St Richards Gardens.
The blaze began in a workshop attached to the house and, luckily for those living there, the smoke alarm sounded to alert them and they were able to get out in time.
Just moments later the fire took hold when the flames spread, through an upstairs window and ripping into the eaves.
Two crews from Droitwich Fire Station initially attended but they soon called for back-up and two crews from Worcester joined the fray.
Three hose reels and two main water jets to battle the blaze, along with an aerial platform ladder to fight the fire from above.
A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said it showed the importance of having a working smoke alarm and was a timely reminder to people to test theirs in case they were needed.
Firefighters left the scene at 5.30am and returned to check everything was still out at 10am.
