MORE THAN 20,000 people took part in the Morrisons Great Birmingham Run on Sunday (October 18) for a variety of good causes.

The half-marathon circuit took runners from the Second City centre, out towards Edgbaston and the cricket ground, on to Bournville, the home of Cadbury World and back to the city centre.

Among those pounding the streets and seeing those iconic Birmingham landmarks were runners from the south of the city, Bromsgrove, Rubery and Droitwich.

And the organisers have revealed to The Standard those men and women who finished with the fastest times following the run.

The fastest Droitwich man was Scott Lattimer who finished in 625th place overall with a time of 1hr, 32mins and 36secs.

He said: “It didn’t feel that fast when I was going round.

“My training could have gone better – earlier in the year, I ran my first marathon in Stratford and that was when I was at my peak of physical fitness.”

Scott, who is a member of Droitwich AC (Athletics Club), has also ran the Worcester Half-Marathon, where he was four minutes quicker and the Droitwich Half-Marathon.

Droitwich AC meets on a Tuesday and Thursday evening at 6.30pm at Droitwich Leisure Centre.

Sally Talbot, who finished in 4,410th place, was the fastest woman in Droitwich after completing the course in 1hr, 55mins and 15secs.

Sally was running to raise funds for The Stroke Association and undertook the challenge at the request of her daughter Hannah Talbot who is the chairman of the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs. There was a group of 35 from the Young Farmers who were running for various good causes and to help raise the profile of the organisation.

Sally said: “”I ran the Worcester 10k last year and this year, but before that I hadn’t done anything like this since I was a girl.

“To get the time that I did was a massive achievement for me.”
