THE COUNTDOWN to Christmas will officially get under way in Droitwich next Saturday (November 25) when the annual lights switch-on takes place in Victoria Square.

The big plunger moment will be conducted by John Hemminge 400th Anniversary Tribute Shakespearean actor Ross Armstrong, Mayor, Coun Kate Fellows and Father Christmas, at 6pm.

Beforehand – from 12pm – there will be a host of activities, including a farmers’ market, fairground rides and Santa’s Grotto.

The Salvation Army Band will perform in the square from 4.15pm until 4.45pm, dance group ENTW9 between 5pm and 5.10pm, SB Danceworks from 5.15pm to 5.30pm and the Trarantara Choir between 5.30pm and 6pm.

There will be a Community Advent Celebration at St Andrew’s Church at 4.30pm, featuring the Droitwich Community Choir – everyone is welcome.

There will free parking in Wychavon’s town centre car parks from 12pm.

Other festive activities

A mini food festival will take place in Saltbarrow Market, off the High Street, where buskers are being urged to perform – the best one on the day will win a trophy, cash and a set at Salt Festival 2024.

A Droitwich Town Council spokesperson said; “There will be a prize to the best busker on the day.

“We hope that this may encourage many more outsiders to the town, both buskers as well as people who enjoy buskers and music in general.”

In association with the Norbury Theatre and Droitwich Spa Business Association, local traders will be helping and supporting the Norbury Theatre put a small show on in Gurneys lane.

The show – from 4.30pm to 5.30pm – will showcase the theatre’s pantomime. Droitwich Coffee Culture will be offering free mini hot chocolate shots to enjoy during the short production.
