Fire Service beat West Mercia Police in annual football match

HEREFORD and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service finished triumphant over West Mercia Police in the annual football match to remember a local firefighter.

The fire service beat the police 1-0 in the match at Bromsgrove Sporting’s Victoria Ground in memory of Del Bradley who died in 2016 just before he was due to retire.

The charity match raised £1,410.68 which will be split between The British Heart Foundation, The Fire Fighters Charity and Flint House (police rehab centre).

The first half was a competitive contest and the police were unlucky not to take the lead when they had the ball in the back of the net only for it to be ruled offside.

The fire service had few chances but with 20 minutes to go Sam Churchley’s shot sparked a goalmouth scramble and the ball crept over the line.

The police continued to press but the fire service held on to lift the Copa Del Bradley Cup.

A spokesperson said: “We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who contributed to the total and to Bromsgrove Sporting along with all the local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle.”
