A GROUP of ‘floating’ volunteers have rolled up their sleeves to rid the Droitwich town centre canal of rubbish.
In total, 11 bags of litter were collected by members of the Upton Warren Canoe and Kayak Club who took to the water and paddled their way into the town centre.
Among the items strewn alongside the waterway and collected were cans, bottles and plastic, along with metallic items, such as an old pushchair.
Event coordinator Lee Halley said: “Our club uses local waterways for recreation and training purposes, they’re an invaluable community asset.
“Protecting the environment, engaging with nature in a positive way whilst enhancing the aesthetics of the local area is important for us as individuals and as members of the club.
“It’s a very rewarding experience, participating in an exercise like this, knowing we’re bringing benefit to the local community.”
Upton Warren Canoe and Kayak Club, based at the Aztec Adventure and the lake opposite Webbs of Wychbold, is always on the lookout for new members.
Kayaking, canoeing and paddleboarding are all catered for, with regular trips on lakes, rivers and the sea.
