YOUNGSTERS from six Droitwich schools and older people from a town residential home prepared and cooked a meal of their choice as part of food and drink festival.
The event organisers teamed up with local chefs to emphasise the importance of preparing food from scratch, rather than relying on takeaways or ready meals, and also promoted the use of local produce.
St Joseph’s Catholic School’s ‘cook in’ saw Bullocks Cafe chef Scott Sneddon help year four children create a three-course lunch of chicken, tomato and mozzarella millefeuille, steak and onion pie and Eaton Mess for dessert using fresh ingredients.
Amidst messy fingers mixing the pastries and dessert the children loved the experience and enjoyed eating the food afterwards.
Festival organiser Patrick Davis said it was great to see and was one of a number of activities organised in conjunction with the event.
Other schools which participated include Westlands First School with Luke from St Andrews Town Hotel, St Peter’s First School with Chris from Gaudet Luce and Newlandhurst Residential home with Mark from Deliciously Squared Catering. St Peters Pre-school also made and baked football biscuits for Father’s Day on June 19.
