A MUCH-LOVED police inspector who spent much of her time in Droitwich has retired after 30 years of service in the force.

Insp Janet Heritage started her career in Shrewsbury in 1980, moving to Droitwich in 1982 as a police constable.

She left in 1985 following the birth of her first child before returning to the West Mercia force in 1995 in Worcester.

Following that, she came back to Droitwich as a ‘scene visitor’ investigating domestic burglaries.

On promotion to sergeant in 2001 Janet was posted to Worcester where she worked as a patrol sergeant and a custody sergeant.

She gained another promotion to inspector in 2004 and was posted to Hindlip, later returning to Worcester as a patrol Inspector and later a Safer Neighbourhood Inspector for Worcester.

Janet said: “Having been a PC and sergeant at Droitwich Spa, I always wanted to return to Droitwich Spa  and had that opportunity when I returned as SNT Inspector for Wychavon. ”

In her final months in the force she has been based at Droitwich but has been working on different projects which included the changes to the pre-charge bail Act.

In her career Janet received four commendations and a long service good conduct medal.

The Standard has teamed up with Janet and her team on several occasions on operations carried out by Droitwich Police.

She said: “I have enjoyed my time working as a police officer.

“It has been a very varied and sometimes very hard career, however I have met and worked with some really good people who care a great deal and just want to do their best for the people they serve.

“I have always loved working at Droitwich Spa and throughout Wychavon and I am pleased have had the opportunity to retire whilst still working here.”

Janet now has plans to learn a language and undertake some camera courses to further her interest in photography.
