A DROITWICH Town Councillor has quit the Conservative Group and will serve out the rest of her term on the authority as an independent.

Coun Kate Fellows said she had reached a position where her values, ethics and attitude of certain members of the Droitwich Spa Town Council Conservative Group – of which she was a member – no longer aligned with her own.

“Therefore, with immediate effect I am resigning from the Droitwich Spa Town Council Conservative Group.

“I have also cancelled my membership of the Conservative Association.

“After having served for six years along with the honour of being the Mayor of our wonderful town in 2023/24.

“My motivation has always been for the local people of Droitwich, not the politics of Westminster.

“I offer my apologies to my Tagwell Ward residents who voted for me.

“I will continue to be available for the duration of my term.”

She urged any residents who needed to contact her to email: [email protected] to get in touch.

Conservative Group response

Leader of Droitwich Town Council Conservative Group, Coun George Duffy, said: “It is unfortunate that Coun Fellows felt she could not resolve her difficulties with members of the Conservative group.

“I hope she still feels amicable to work with the councillors on the town council and that she is still able to help the residents of Droitwich and the Tagwell Ward through her role.”

A Droitwich Town Council spokesperson said the decision of Coun Fellows was a political one and therefore not for the authority to comment.
