Fund-raising ball to be held in Droitwich as Rachael prepares for marathon in memory of her mum

A WOMAN who is running the London Marathon in memory of her late mum is holding a special fund-raising ball in Droitwich.

Rachael Anderson-Shore, who is originally from Droitwich but now lives in Worcester, has organised the Valentine’s themed event at Ombersley Memorial Hall on Saturday (February 11) before she runs the marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support in April.

Held at Ombersley, a village which she says ‘provided a large support network’ for her and her family when her mum was ill, the ball will include a quiz, auction, raffle, hog roast, DJ and more.

The 28-year-old lost her mother to a grade four brain tumour and after four years of fighting, passed away in 2008.

She said: “Cancer has affected our lives in an indescribable way and is the motivation behind supporting Macmillan as I prepare to run the London Marathon.”

To kickstart her fund-raising, Rachael received a donation of £1,000 from Nicol & Co, half of her £2,000 target.

She said: “The support by Nicol & Co has been so much greater than their extremely generous donation – knowing that Matt and the team are behind me each step (26.2 miles of them) of the way fuels my determination when facing this challenge.”

The Valentine’s Ball will be held from 7pm until late at Ombersley Memorial Hall on Saturday (February 11).

Call 07399 975940 or 07734 146628 for tickets which are £15 and include an arrival drink, hog roast, entertainment and DJ.

To donate, Text REAS88 and amount to 70070.
