Fund-raising hero to open Droitwich's new B&M Bargains

AN INSPIRING Droitwich woman who has raised almost £15,000 for charity has been chosen to open the new B&M Bargains store.

Elaine Tesho will be cutting the ribbon and officially marking the opening of the new store, on the Parkridge Retail Park, Kidderminster Road, alongside the Mayor tomorrow (Saturday).

Local hero Elaine was selected for her dedicated work over the last two years in organising bake sales, walks, charity fun days and a charity pub crawl.

During the event Elaine will also be awarded £250 of in-store vouchers which she plans to give to St Richard’s Hospice.

It all began after Elaine’s sister Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer and, although she overcame it, she was later told it had returned in her spine. Elaine and her niece decided to start fund-raising for cancer charities including CRUK, Macmillan Nurses and St Richard’s Hospice.

Elaine said: “I was in shock when I first found out – it made me speechless and that does not happen very often.

“I did not know anything about it – my daughter Stevie and my friend Natalie did it without telling me.

“I am so nervous to do it though, I am looking forward to it – I am not normally in the limelight even though I do all the organising.”

Elaine added she could not have done it all without the help of her family, friends and even one of the town’s firefighters Peter Doran who completed a walk in full fire kit and raised about £2,000.

“I am so grateful to all who helped, baked, donated and sponsored us – I could not have done it all on my own.

“I had a brilliant team behind me.” she said.

Elaine will next be concentrating her efforts on charities helping Dementia patients and their families as she has recently lost her mum to the disease.
