German visitors and French exhibition for Droitwich town twinners

Droitwich Editorial 10th Jul, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

IT HAS been a busy time for Droitwich Spa Twinners – last month members of the German group welcomed 37 guests from Bad Ems and an exhibition about the French twin town Voiron has been put on display by the French association.

The collection of photographs, which is on show at Droitwich Library until next Saturday (July 19), features pictures and other information about the twin town.

Voiron lies on the edge of the Alps, to the east of Lyon and tomorrow (Saturday) and next Saturday (July 19), members of the French twinning group will be on hand to talk to those who go along about the link with the town and the fun and social benefits of joining the organisation.

Last month’s visit by the German guests was the 31st time the two towns had got together for their bi-annual get-together.

The welcoming ceremony was held at Droitwich Spa’s Cricket Club on a glorious afternoon where the guests were treated to typically English tea and cakes. After small speeches from the two Chairmen – Rob Jacobs and Wolfgang Heuser – Droitwich Mayor, Coun Bob Brookes welcomed the visitors and stated how lucky they were to see the wonderful cricket pitch on such a warm afternoon.

The Burgermeister of the Verbandsgemeide der Bad Ems, Josef Oster spoke about how nice it was to back in Droitwich amongst so many friends.

The group spent the evening at the Sacred Heart Church watching a concert organised jointly by the Twinning Association and the Droitwich Festival.

On the Saturday, the guests were taken to the Droitwich Food and Drink Festival and then enjoyed a trip to Hidcote Manor where they again enjoyed a glorious afternoon looking around the gardens.

The twinning committees got together on Sunday morning at the Chateau Impney Hotel to arrange a date for next year’s visit to Bad Ems and then the farewell meal was held at St Andrews Town Hotel. After some superb food, members and their guests were entertained by duo The Dublin Jacks.

Rob Jacobs, Droitwich Spa’s German Twinning Group chairman, said it was nice to have a sunny weekend which helped things go well.

He thanked all of his committee members who worked so hard in making everything go so smoothly.
