Giant jar of pickled onions makes tasty total for the Primrose Hospice

Droitwich Editorial 10th Mar, 2020

A GIANT jar of prized pickled onions raised a mouth-watering total for charity when they were auctioned off for the Primrose Hospice, writes Caprice Harrison.

The gallon-sized jar, which took Alan ‘Flash’ Wardle four hours to peel and prepare, reached a bid of £160 at a Christmas disco held at the Stoke Prior Sports and Social Club.

The event itself raised £600 for the hospice and was attended by 100 people.

Mark Goddard, the club’s manager, said: “Everyone enjoyed the disco and we had lots of people telling us we should advertise it more next year.

“We’ve lost customers over the years who were cared for by Primrose Hospice so we wanted to do something to support the hospice.”

Michelle Ashmore and Sarah Lewis helped with the raffle and donated the buffet for the evening, while Sean Toogood helped organise the disco.

Sarah Harris, the Primrose Hospice’s community fund-raiser, said the charity was grateful for the donation.

“The money raised will help us continue to provide free end of life care to people living in our community.”
