Government announces when swimming pools, gyms, leisure centres and beauticians can reopen

Droitwich Editorial 9th Jul, 2020   0

THE LATEST easing of the lockdown restrictions will see swimming pools and leisure centres will be able to open again from July 25, provided they have adequate measures in place.

Outdoor pools and water parks, if they have the right safety measures, can reopen from Saturday, July 11.

Among the measures needed to be in place for gyms will be designated time slots to limit the people using facilities, equipment more spaced out and intensive cleaning regimes of workout areas, changing areas and toilets.

From this Saturday, people can participate in team and other grassroots sports where the sports governing body has issued guidance on how to do so safely.

Close contact services, such as beauticians, nail bars, salons, tanning booths, spas, massage parlours, tattoo parlours and body piercing studios, can open from Monday, July 13.

Only services that do not involve work in the highest risk zone – directly in front of the face – should be made available to clients.

Outdoor theatre performances with limited audiences to maintain social distancing will also be able to reopen from this Saturday.

Indoor rehearsals can take place in Covid-19 secure venues.

Indoor rehearsals and indoor performances for broadcast should only happen where no audience is present.

Smaller-scale indoor performances can be piloted in Covid-19 Secure venues once approved by the Government.

The announcements were made by Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden earlier this evening.

He said: “We need to get the nation ‘match fit’ to face this disease.”

And he added the rules must be followed or the Government would not hesitate in locking down areas or closing venues.
