ST ANDREWS Shopping Centre in Droitwich could be in line for a major revamp, with residents urged to have their say on the first phase of the plans.
A planning application has been submitted for phase one of the works, which will form part of an overall masterplan to redevelop the high street shopping centre.
In phase one of the project three entrance points to the shopping centre would be enhanced to make them more visible.
This will include better pavements, new signs and LED lights, and landscaping.
New kiosk units would be installed within the central footpath along with seating areas.
A consultation on phase one of the plans is now open until September 1.
As part of the masterplan, which is still in the design process, existing buildings would be demolished and replaced with a new retail space.
The new space is projected to be mixed-use with new food and drink restaurants and cafes, around 250 apartments and other shops and areas for fun activities.
Phase one has been designed to complement both the existing buildings and future improvements. The works aim to create stronger links with the town centre and provide an ‘engaging and updated’ shopping experience.
The planning report claimed this phase would enhance the existing shopping centre and deliver ‘significant benefits’ with minimal impact.
The shopping centre enhancements are part of Wychavon’s 20-year town centre prospectus for Droitwich, creating a better experience for visitors to the town and encourage more people to live in the centre.
The prospectus said visitors are seeking more than just shops within the town centre and said the development would provide a chance to create a more ‘experimental offer’ in Droitwich. It also aims to create better connections from Vines Park through to the south of the town.
