Have your say on plans for new Hampton Lovett solar farm

Droitwich Editorial 16th Apr, 2024   0

A CONSULTATION has been launched to seek feedback on proposals for a new solar farm in Hampton Lovett in Droitwich.

The 57.2 hectare project at Fibden Farm, just east of the A442 is proposed by renewable energy firm, Grenergy UK. It is estimated the solar farm and battery storage facility (BESS) will supply energy to approximately 17,000 homes.

Before plans are submitted to Wychavon District Council, members of the public are invited to share feedback on the proposals. The consultation launched on Friday, April 12 and runs until Tuesday, May 7.

According to the initial plans, the solar panels would be mounted at a height which allows sheep to graze underneath and around the infrastructure.

Hedgerows would be planted at the boundaries of the site to promote wildlife connectivity and screen views from public footpaths nearby.

Other wildlife conservation measures to combat environmental impacts have been proposed including tree planting and sowing of native grass and wildflower meadows.

The extend of the wildlife conservation measures have not been outlined in the initial plans.

Construction would aim to be started in the first quarter of 2026 and completed by the of the year, if planning application is successful.

A public exhibition will also be held by the Grenergy UK team at Hampton Lovett Village Hall, Droitwich on Thursday, April 25 (3pm to 7pm). Residents are encouraged to attend to learn more about the plans and share their thoughts.

A spokesperson for Grenergy UK said: “We are pleased to be bringing forward plans for a new solar project in Hampton Lovett, Wychavon, which will help reduce our energy prices and our reliance on international fossil fuel markets.

“Our vision goes beyond providing renewable energy. It is also our aim to increase biodiversity within the area by planting wildflowers and hedgerows throughout the site.

“By doing this, we will deliver a project that addresses the climate emergency whilst protecting the local environment.

“We are committed to engaging with the local community as we bring forward our plans. We look forward to hearing the views of the local community.”
