Health chiefs issue norovirus warning at Worcestershire hospitals

HEALTH chiefs are urging vulnerable residents to take extra care to avoid catching norovirus, the winter vomiting disease.

Those with long-term health conditions, the elderly or the very young are at risk of experiencing an even higher impact of the ‘bug’ which is already extremely unpleasant for the healthiest of people.

Dr Richard Davies said: “When people have norovirus they usually make a full recovery within one or two days, but this is not the case for everyone.

“For patients already ill, in hospital or those with long term conditions, this virus can cause further health complications.”

They are advising anyone who has contracted the virus to stay home until 48 hours after symptoms have passed, to wash their hands frequently, stay clear of doctors and hospitals and to wash any clothes or bedding which may be contaminated.
