A HEDGEHOG was rescued by staff ‘partner’ at Droitwich’s Waitrose after the disorientated spiky creature was discovered wandering around by the store’s trolleys.
Moody, as he has been named, was found by Mandy Bowden and taken to Bromsgrove’s Willows Hedgehog Rescue centre.
Jayne Lawrence, who runs Willows with Charlie Walker, said it looked as though the hog has lost an eye and was very thin and run down when he was found.
“Since then he has made fantastic progress and, after gaining weight, he has now been put into foster care.”
Jayne added when he had completely recovered, he would be returned to the wild via one of the charity’s release gardens in Droitwich.
Mandy said: “We found the poor hedgehog looking a little lost and unwell by our trolleys, so we wanted to do whatever we could to help.
“We’re so pleased that through the work of Willows Hedgehog Rescue the hedgehog is now back on the mend.”
Jayne said hedgehogs should not be out in daylight, particularly in the hot summer weather, and urged any residents who found one to place them in a high sided box and to contact Willows as soon as possible on 07518 354408.
And she urged residents who had hedgehogs living in their area to give them a helping hand by putting out water and food for them.
Hedgehog food is available from many outlets but cat and dog food is also safe and nutritious for them to eat.
