HISTORY buffs in Droitwich are in with the chance of helping uncover the mysteries and memories of one of the town’s lesser-known historically significant assets.
Worcestershire Building Preservation Society, overseers of the restoration of Grade II listed Willow Court Farmhouse, are seeking volunteers for a memory collection project for the local landmark.
As part of the project – which expects to restore and convert the historic building into six flats by 2026 – the team are keen to uncover and tell the history of the farmhouse.
Volunteers will learn new skills, get free professional training and work with a small team to uncover memories of the farmhouse, previously named Boycott Farm, and the early days of the Westlands Estate in Droitwich.
The Project will run from March to September 2025. Volunteers need to enjoy talking and listening to people, be available for two to three mornings a month and be interested in the history of the local area.
Volunteers will be trained and supported to engage with contributors, discover their stories, and make audio recordings of their memories.
Participants will be collating, sharing and analysing the collected material and selecting and potentially editing extracts for exhibition.
Organisers are looking for people with genuine curiosity and good listening skills who are interested in documenting the past through peoples stories.
Experience is not needed but participants must be happy working in a team and independently.
The project is supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, The Architectural Heritage Fund, Wychavon District Council and Platform Housing.
Deadline for applications is February 8. Visit https://wmhbt.org.uk/blog/willow-court-farmhouse-droitwich/ for more information.
