A WEATHER warning has been issued about strong winds and heavy rain which is threatening to lash the county in the next 24 hours.

Forecasts by the Met Office predict from midnight tonight, wind speeds will increaase, peaking at 25mph.

It also predicts there will be gusts in the next 24 hours which will be close to 50mph.

For Bromsgrove and Rubery, rain is predicted almost constantly from 1am to 7am and again for two hours in the afternoon.

The conditions will be caused by the remains of Hurricane Gonzalo which has made its way across the Atlantic from America.

The Met Office has officially issued a yellow warning for Worcestershire.

On its website, a statement read: “The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel and possible damage to trees.

“Difficult driving conditions will result, perhaps exacerbated by surface water and spray in places.”

Worcestershire Highways have put in additional gulley emptying gangs and all tree contractors are on standby if needed. These will be ready to work throughout the night if required.

Coun John Smith OBE, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member for Highways, said: “We’ve put plans in place and have additional teams ready to work if needed.

“It doesn’t look like things are going to be too nice at all.

“As ever, people are being reminded to take care if they are out and about.”
