IT WAS party time at Himbleton Village Hall on Saturday when the community came together to toast the venue’s 90th anniversary.

There were plenty of strawberries and Pimm’s on offer for adults at the garden party, along with a tombola, games and teas.

Visitors were given the chance to see the hall’s impressive new-look garden which was made possible, thanks to a National Lottery grant.

Jean George, treasurer of the Himbleton Village Hall Committee, said: “We had a few people come along and we had a pleasant afternoon in the sunshine.

“We couldn’t have asked for any better weather – it was perfect for all the activities and events we had planned.”

The land for the hall was donated to the village by the family at Himbleton Manor and a group of trustees was set up to fund its build.

The wooden structure is still the same as it was almost a century ago.

Jean added: “It’s still important to have a place like this where community groups can meet.”

Currently the venue is used by the local WI group, it hosts table tennis sessions and pilates and yoga classes are held there.

Dog-training sessions are starting soon at the hall which is also used for parties and other special events.

The hall also hosts monthly film screenings throughout the winter.

The committee are always organising fund-raising events to safeguard its long-term future.
