LOCALS will hear the story of a Droitwich boy who joined the Pilgrim Fathers on their voyage to North America at a history talk in the town on St. Peters day later this month.
The illustrated talk, hosted by Philip Bowen, will explore the journey of the separatists on the famous Mayflower ship, looking into where they came from in England, why they fled to Holland and how they founded the Plymouth Colony in North America.
The presentation at 7.30pm on June 29 at St. Peter’s Church will also explore the story of Droitwich local, John Winslow, who was baptised at St. Peters Church, served three times as governor of the Plymouth Colony and later died fighting for Oliver Cromwell in the Caribbean.
Other topics of discussion will include what happened to the Native Americans who occupied the land prior to colonisation, the myths about the Pilgrim Fathers’ voyage and the view of the Pilgrim Fathers in today’s United States.
Entry will be £5 with proceeds going to the church. Refreshments will be served from 7pm.
