A TALK in Evesham detailing the history of a beautiful Victorian theatre has raised almost £1000 for charity.

The illustrated presentation explored Cheltenham’s wonderful Everyman Theatre was organised by Viv Jones in support of Christian Aid Week.

It was hosted at Evesham Methodist Church by Cheltenham Everyman Theatre employee Caro Day on Saturday, May 18 and welcomed around 50 people.

The history of the town and of its splendid theatre was told in a ‘wonderful way’ by Ms Day, complete with some costumes from the theatre and hundreds of pictures projected on the church screen

The evening included a savoury and sweet supper, a Raffle with splendid prizes given by local businesses and a Theatre Themed quiz which was won by Wychavon’s new Mayor, Robert Raphael.

Organiser Viv Jones and her husband, Eric were joined by some of Eric’s former drama students – Connor Hill, Rohan Hewitt and Henry Dorrell – who performed short excerpts from Shakespeare, with some props loaned to the event from The Royal Shakespeare Theatre.

A spokesperson for the event said: “It was huge and popular successful evening, much enjoyed by all those who attended, raising money for a worthwhile cause.”

All of the proceeds were donated to Christian Aid.
