A COUPLE will be saddling up for a spring charity show at the Gracelands Equestrian Centre in Elmbridge, Droitwich, to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

Roy Mason-Williams and Carolle Lee-Jones, founders of the High Horse Showing Society, are holding the event from 9am on Sunday, April 15.

Everyone is welcome, with a huge variety of categories and rosettes presented to all of the participants.

The Cancer Research UK Worcester and District Team will be in attendance representing the charity. They will have items available for donation, and there will also be raffles and other stalls raising money. All proceeds from the event will be going to Cancer Research UK.

Roy and Carolle established the High Horse Showing Society five years ago. Their events are very popular, known for being fun days while also promoting learning and good practice. After a successful few years, they had decided to take a break in 2018, but chose to hold this one-off show after Carolle’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Carolle said: “We decided to hold the event after so many of our dear friends and family members were affected by cancer. Seeing first-hand with my beautiful mum the day-to-day struggles people face, we wanted to try and turn such an awful time in people’s lives into something positive.

“We are blessed with some amazing sponsors, friends and competitors who are supporting us with the show, so huge thanks goes to them.”

Ellen Jurczak, Cancer Research UK’s local fund-raising manager for the West Midlands, said: “Roy and Carolle are an absolute inspiration and we can’t thank them enough for deciding to hold this event to help Cancer Research UK beat cancer sooner. It’s going to be a fantastic day for the whole family, so please do come along and support.

“One in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives, but the good news is more people are surviving the disease now than ever before.

“Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. However, we have only been able to achieve this thanks to the dedication and generosity of volunteers and supporters like Roy and Carolle, without whom we would not be able to fund outstanding scientists, doctors and nurses.”
