A HUSBAND and wife duo on Worcestershire County Council are stepping down from their roles and not seeking re-election in May.
Coun Anthony Blagg, who is also the authority’s Deputy Leader and the Cabinet Member with Responsibility for the Environment, has called time on his 12-year career at County Hall.
His wife Coun Sheila Blagg, who has served Cabinet Member with Responsibility for Adult Social Care since 2013, has also confirmed she will be standing down at the forthcoming elections.
Anthony was first elected to the county council in 2005, representing Bromsgrove Central, where after just four years he was promoted to the Conservative leadership team and handed the environment portfolio. In January 2016 he was then appointed Deputy Leader, whilst still continuing his environment role.
Sheila also joined the authority in the same year, representing Woodvale. For seven years she was the County Council’s representative on the West Mercia Police Authority, and held the position of Chairman of the Authority.
Coun Simon Geraghty, Leader of Worcestershire County Council, said: “I have worked closely with Anthony and Sheila throughout my time on the authority, and will miss their ability, experience and dedication to public service.
“Sheila has given fantastic and tireless service to Adult Social Care, and Anthony has been a supportive and hardworking deputy, as well as a passionate champion of the Environment.
“I would like to thank Anthony and Sheila for their sterling service over the years, and wish them all the best for their retirement.”
