Iceland to open in Droitwich next week

A NEW Iceland store will be opening in Droitwich next week, creating over 20 jobs.

Iceland Foods has announced it will be opening the doors to the new store in St Andrews Square Shopping Centre on Tuesday, April 21, at 8am.

It is estimated that an extra 22 jobs will be created as a result of the new store.

To celebrate the new store opening, Iceland will be giving away £1,500 worth of vouchers to the first 150 customers in the queue.

On the opening day, every customer in the queue before 7:30am will be given a raffle ticket, entering them into a prize draw to win the chance to take part in a supermarket sweep-style challenge where they can fill their trolley for free for 90 seconds.

Kristian Barrett, Chief Operating Officer at Iceland Foods, said: “We’re excited to be opening our new store in Droitwich, bringing even more fantastic deals and a brilliant range of frozen, grocery and fresh foods to local shoppers.

“We can’t wait to open our doors and see our customers enjoy the unrivalled variety of products available across the store.”

The new store will be open between 8am and 6pm between Monday and Saturday, and 10am until 4pm on Sundays.

Poundland, which used to occupy the building, closed in December.

A spokesperson for the discount chain said the Droitwich closure happened due to a lease expiry, with Poundland continuing a programme to ‘simplify its retail network’ around its ‘best-performing sites.’

Following the announcement, Wychavon Council leader Coun Richard Morris said the closure of Poundland should not be seen as a loss of confidence in Droitwich Town Centre.
