MORE than 1,000 people descended on Droitwich’s Lido Park for an event fit for a king.
The Community Coronation Celebration, organised by Droitwich Spa Town Council and Wychavon District Council, took place at the park’s bandstand.
On the bill were the Salvation Army Brass Band, dance performances from ENTW9 and SB dance Works.
Children’s entertainer Ronnie Crackers kept the little ones occupied, along with a face-painting stall, and people could have a selfie with King Charles III in the form of a cardboard cut-out.
A local charity and community group showcase hosted by the ‘Big Help Out’ campaign will give attendees a chance to see and experience the dedicated volunteer work of various organisations.
Among them were Droitwich Lions, Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, The WI, SOBBs, Droitwich Spa Foodbank, Droitwich Salvation Army, Pamela May 2 community narrowboat, U3A Droitwich Spa and District, Tennis in the Park, Friends of the Droitwich Spa Lido and Droitwich First Responders.
People took a long picnics, chairs and blankets and enjoyed the extravaganza which was bathed in warm May sunshine.
Pat Hine said: “We often come down for the Bands in the Park concerts and today we’ve brought our family and friends.
“The weather is great – it’s a good job it wasn’t on yesterday or tomorrow – the sun has brought everyone out.”
Mary Durant added: “We came down early to make sure we got a good spot for the entertainment.
“You can see a lot of work has been put in.
“We come to as many Bands in the Park as we can but this is a special one.
“It’s also nice to see children out and playing.”
Peter and Maureen Griffin also attended the event.
Peter said: “It’s great to see so many children enjoying the day and the Salvation Army are brilliant – demonstrating what a variety of music they can perform.”
Maureen added: “It’s very good of the councils to put this on for everyone and great to see people coming out to make the most of it.”
