MORE than 18,000 people attended this year’s Droitwich SaltFest, which organisers hailed as the biggest and best one to date.

The five-day event, primarily in Vines Park and with some activities in the Lido Park, ran from Wednesday to Sunday with the official opening on the Friday.

Re-enactors from the Roman Military Research Society set up their camp and took visitors back to times gone by with demonstrations of how life used to be during arguably one of the most famous times in the town’s history.

There was plenty of activities and entertainment, including children’s rides, live music, a dog show, plus rides on the Pamela May 2 community narrowboat.

The first-ever Saltfest Open Mic Night was held on the Wednesday and the comedy night returned on the Thursday with new artists, including some seen on TV.

The event included nearly 120 stalls, offering a variety of items. A total of 24 offered street and bespoke food and drink, including the renowned Attic Brew Co.

One of the stall holders was Nicola Babosar who is from Droitwich and has recently launched Fresh Squeeze, a venture offering fresh juices.

She was helped by her mum Katie at what was their first event.

Nicola said: “We have been here for the three days – it was a bit quiet to start with but it soon picked up.

“The juices have been very well received and we have had some great feedback.”

This year featured a new event in Lido Park – the Vicarage Village Fete, featuring market stalls, a wine shop, the Bee Honey Society, an open buffet and coffee cabin.

And the largest open air Sunday church service in Worcestershire took place on Sunday at the Lido Park bandstand.

A firework display concluded proceedings.

Organiser Simon Berry said: “We had a lot of positive feedback with many saying this was the best festival they had ever seen in Droitwich.”
