ON INTERNATIONAL Women’s Day, new figures show Wychavon District is the area with the second highest percentage of female-led companies in the UK.
The new study from money.co.uk saw data analysed from The Gender Index to reveal facts and figures relating to women’s entrepreneurship in the across the country.
Wychavon district finishing second highest with 14,175 companies overall – 6,782 male-led (47.8 per cent) and 4,773 (33.7 per cent) female-led.
The local authority has a thriving agricultural sector and an increasing focus on leisure and tourism.
Worcestershire scored well with the Wyre Forest taking the top spot. It boasts 9,146 businesses in its district with 4,630 (50.5 per cent) male-led and 4,630 (35.4 per cent) run by women. That gives the district the highest ratio of female-led businesses to males.
Due to the area’s natural beauty, businesses in Wyre Forest are mainly tourism-oriented, including accommodation, outdoor activities and hospitality.
