FIRE chiefs have confirmed an investigation is being carried out into a massive blaze that ripped through the Travelodge in Rashwood, near Wychbold.

It broke out on Friday and at its height there were ten fire crews – almost 50 firefighters – battling the blaze.

The fire was finally extinguished at 4.15pm but inspections were carried out at 8.20pm and 5.20am on Saturday when the last crews stood down.

Part of the roof space was destroyed at the hotel and such was the severity of the blaze the main A38 Worcester Road has had to be closed for most of the day which has led to major traffic problems.

A Travelodge spokesperson said: “The hotel is currently closed due to the Covid-19 lockdown and was scheduled to reopen next week.

“We can confirm no one was hurt and we would like to thank the emergency services for their rapid response.”

The cause of the blaze is not yet known and the findings of the fire investigation officers are expected to be released soon.
