Just days left for Droitwich to donate shoeboxes

Droitwich Editorial 21st Nov, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

DROITWICH residents have just days left to donate their seasonal shoeboxes to the Spa’s Specsavers to help children less fortunate around the world.

Those wanting to take part in the Operation Christmas Child scheme should donate a box of gifts to the optician in St Andrew’s Square before Thursday (November 27).

Among the things which can be put in the parcels are toys, school supplies, clothing or hygiene items.

Those making up a box should put a label on it, stating whether it is for a boy or a girl and the age range it is suitable for – two to four, five to nine or ten to 14.

The Samaritan’s Purse, which has run the project since 1990, has donated boxes to more than 113million boys and girls in over 130 counries.

Droitwich’s Specsavers store dorectpr Emma Singh said: “We’d urge customers to participate and help us support this great cause that helps children in developing countries.

“Samaritan’s Purse carries out fantastic work helping children, particularly at Christmas time when it can be extremely difficult for families.”

The charity also asks for a £3 donation per box to cover shipping costs.

For more on the scheme, pop into Specsavers, visit www.specsavers.co.uk/droitwich or call 01905 790660.
