Last chance for Droitwich residents to vote for funding for much-needed lifesaving equipment

Droitwich Editorial 15th Nov, 2017   0

DROITWICH residents have less than a week left to make their vote count and help Droitwich AED secure funding for new lifesaving equipment in the town.

The group has urged the community to place their vote for the Aviva Community Fund before the closing date on November 21.

Droitwich AED is campaigning and fund-raising to put more 24-hour accessible defibrillators in Droitwich so they are there when people need them.

Up to £5,000 is up for grabs which would go towards three new three CU SP-1 defibrillators and three external cabinets so they can be Community Public Access Defibrillators (CPADs) and accessible 24/7.

The money would also fund three SP-1 trainer defibrillators and some new Brayden lluminated manikins to help with the free Basic Life Support (BLS) training courses and other subsidised first aid courses.

The new CPADs would be sited on WANDS Children’s Centre, to cover the Westlands estate, at St Peter’s Scout Hut, to serve the Cockshute Hill/Winslow Avenue estates and at SN Financial Services, covering lower Saltway and Vines Park.

Peter Richards, Chair of Trustees for Droitwich AED, said: “Everybody has ten votes to be sure of getting these three free CPADs for Droitwich.

“They will help save some of the 60+ people who currently die from Cardiac Arrests in Droitwich every year.

“We urgently need another 250 people to go on line and vote for us.”

Peter said at some time in the future more than 5,000 of Droitwich residents will suffer an out of hospital cardiac arrest.

“Currently only about two or three people a year survive these because of lack of prompt CPR and Defibrillation.

“If not you, it will be one of your family or friends will need one of these defibrillators to survive.”
