DROITWICH Spa’s proud and impressive brine history will be celebrated next weekend with the return of the town’s popular annual Salt Fest.

A wild range of activities – including stalls, antiques, a food hall, art and craft stalls, children’s funfair, live music and lots more – will take place in Vines Park and the surrounding area between September 2 and 4.

The event will get under way on Friday.

On Saturday, there will be an opening ceremony at 10am with the 2516 (Droitwich) – RAF Air Cadets marching through town, the Town Crier in Vines Park and appearances from dignatries.

There will be themed fancy dress and a dog show at 2pm.

The festival will also take its visitors back in time with a living Roman history section.

As Salt Fest comes to a close on Sunday, Droitwich Community Choir will perform songs from ‘Last Night of the Proms’ which will be followed by bell-ringing at St Augustine’s Church and fireworks above the church building.

A rousing rendition of the national anthem will bring the curtain down on the event at 9.30pm on Sunday in celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Year.

Previous Salt Fest events have attracted more than 18,000 people throughout the weekend.

Coun Mark Ward, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth and Tourism at Wychavon, said: “It is always wonderful to see Droitwich Spa come alive when the popular Salt Fest returns.

“There is something for all the family to enjoy and this year looks to be as brilliant as ever.

“It is also a great opportunity to support our local businesses and to see what the town has to offer.”

Simon Berry, from the Gardeners Arms, added: “There really is something for everyone – we want as many people as possible to come down and enjoy what will be a fantastic weekend.”
