Learn about Droitwich's link to the 'Pilgrim fathers' at illustrated talk

Droitwich Editorial 27th Jun, 2023   0

DROITWICH residents will be able to enjoy an illustrated talk on the Pilgrim fathers and  Droitwich’s link to them at St Peter’s church later this week.

The talk will be hosted by Philip Bowen and will start at 7.30pm on St Peter’s Day (Thursday, June 29.)

The pilgrim fathers were English settlers who travelled to America on the Mayflower and established the Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts in the early 1600s.

Droitwich-born Edward Winslow, who was baptised in St Peter’s and went on to become a three-time governor of the new colony, will feature heavily.

The talk will explore the pilgrim fathers journey and explain why they initially fled to the Netherlands.

It will then follow them on their voyage on ‘Mayflower’, through the desperate first winter and eventually to their successful growth into a prosperous colony.

And there will be refreshments to enjoy from 7pm.

Admission will cost £5 each with the proceeds going to the church.
