RESIDENTS in Droitwich are being invited to a drop-in session to hear all about the town’s new banking hub ahead of its arrival.

In association with Cash Access, who provide essential cash and banking services in the absence of high street banks, the public engagement event will take place on Friday (April 11) in the council chamber of St Richard’s House in Victoria Square, Droitwich.

The flexible and informal event will play host to a few scheduled presentations with the possibility of asking questions. The first presentation will take place from 8.30am until 10am with a further two later in the day (12 noon to 1.30pm and 3pm to 4pm).

There will also be a stall up at the Friday Charter Market in the square from 1.30pm to 2.30pm. The day will be hosted with the support of Mr Ian Lambert, regional manager for Cash Access UK.

Attendees can learn about the new banking hub and its anticipated roll-out programme. A live stream link for the presentation sessions will be available through Droitwich Spa Town Council’s YouTube channel.

Droitwich Spa was recommended for a banking hub recently after news its last bank remaining bank branch – Santander – will be closing in the future.

Banking hub’s are operated by Cash Access UK and the Post Office and are assessed for eligibility by LINK, who run the nation’s cashpoint network.

They protect residents and business owners’ right to access to cash and other financial banking services when retail banks shut up shop in local communities.

Residents, business owners and local authority representatives have long been calling for one in the town as it has continued to face bank branch closures over the last few years.

Banking hubs are a shared banking space, similar to a traditional bank branch, but available to everyone.

When opened, the hub will consist of a counter service where customers of any bank can withdraw and deposit cash, make bill payments and carry out regular banking transactions.

There will also be private spaces where customers can speak to community bankers from their own bank for more complicated matters requiring specialist knowledge or privacy.

The banks will be working on a rotating basis, so there will be staff from different banks available on alternating days.
