Mid Worcestershire have selected Margaret Rowley as their candidate for June’s General Election for the fourth election in a row.
She was re-selected at a meeting of party members and will once again attempt to become Mid Worcestershire’s MP.
Margaret has stood in every General Election since 2005 and in 2010 she achieved the Lib Dem’s best result in the constituency by finishing in second.
Since 1995 she has represented Bowbrook on Wychavon District Council and has served as Leader of the Opposition since 1999.
The veteran Lib Dem candidate will be hoping to improve on her performance from the last General Election in 2015. Two years ago she had a disastrous night, as the Lib Dems did national, with Margaret finishing in fourth place and saw her vote share drop by 16.5 per cent.
“I am delighted to be the Liberal Democrat candidate for Mid-Worcestershire again,” Margaret said.
“We have more members than ever before.
“Many people are put off voting for the Conservatives because of their backing for a ‘hard Brexit’, putting British jobs and influence at risk. Labour is sinking under Jeremy Corbin’s drifting leadership which has failed to provide a convincing opposition in Parliament.
“The Liberal Democrats are the only party offering the British people a real alternative and a vision of a Britain that is open, tolerant and united. We are the only party fighting for you to have your say on the final Brexit deal.
“We have put forward proposals to give more support to the NHS and social care services and provide extra funding for schools and colleges. We will continue to support the environment by fighting climate change, and to protect our countryside and green spaces.”
