LOCAL groups are being urged to apply for grants through Worcestershire County Council’s newly-formed Community Solutions Fund.
In all there is £145,000 in financial support available but time is running out to apply for the first round of funding.
The fund is aimed at recognising the important roles played by parish and town councils, voluntary and community organisations, schools, community groups and partners in supporting communities to come together and do things for themselves; taking control of improving the quality of life in the places where we live.
The fund welcomes applications up to £20,000 (more in some cases) from all of these organisations to support projects that improve access to services within a local community or assist those who need it with daily living tasks or help socialising and getting out and about.
The fund could help projects such as taking over the running of vacant or available council buildings so they are managed by local communities, or providing support for people’s mental health and wellbeing and access into training or employment.
It is hoped that by doing so it will increase community capacity with the net result of reducing demand and costs on the County Council, or even raise income.
Councillor Lucy Hodgson, cabinet member for communities, said: “We’re fully supportive of community initiatives and the positive impact they can have across Worcestershire.
“We’re hopeful that initiatives like the Community Solutions fund will help us to continue the great work that is already going on in this area and hopefully inspire more in the future.”
