Make sure you are ready to vote for Droitwich's new MP urges Wychavon

RESIDENTS in Wychavon are being urged to take five minutes to make sure they are ready for the upcoming General Election by carrying out some simple checks.

Voters will go to the polls on Thursday, July 4 and Wychavon is reminding people to allow plenty of time to register to vote, if they need to, or apply for postal or proxy votes.

People should also check they have the right photo ID, which will be needed to vote in a UK General Election for the first time.

Anyone who has just turned 18, recently moved house or changed their name will need to register to vote online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote by 11.59pm on Tuesday, June 18.

Postal vote applications must be made by 5pm on 19 June and proxy vote applications – where someone is nominated to vote for someone else – must be made by 5pm on 26 June.

Voters will need to show an accepted form of voter ID, such as a UK passport or driving licence, at a polling station before they will be allowed to vote.

Anyone who doesn’t have a form of photo ID on the list can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate through Wychavon’s website. The deadline for applications is 5pm on June 26.

This election will also be the first fought on new parliamentary constituency boundaries, following a review in 2023.

Most of Wychavon is in the new seat of Droitwich and Evesham but some, including the majority of Dodderhill ward, Harvington and Norton and Inkberrow wards, are in the Redditch seat.

Bredon, Bredon Hill, Eckington, Pershore and part of Broadway, Sedgeberrow and Childswickham wards are in the unchanged West Worcestershire constituency.

Residents should check their poll card when they arrive in the next few weeks which will tell them which constituency they are voting in and where they should go to vote.
