A GOLDEN nugget valued at £40,000 has been found in Shropshire during an event hosted by a Droitwich metal detecting club.
During the metal detecting rally last May near Much Wenlock, Shropshire, a member of the local club, K C Rally’s, stumbled upon a remarkable find that has since garnered widespread attention.
Richard Brock, travelled from Somerset to join the rally and found himself in the spotlight after unearthing a golden nugget weighing an impressive 65 grams.
Five years ago, Keith Campbell, a Droitwich Glass business owner, alongside his friend Adrian Harris, established K C Rally’s via Facebook.
The club was formed with the aim of bringing together like-minded individuals passionate about metal detecting.
Richard’s journey to uncovering what has now been dubbed ‘Hiro’s Nugget’ wasn’t without its challenges.
Arriving late to the event and encountering technical difficulties with his detector, he resorted to using an older model that he had brought along as a backup.
Despite its worn appearance, this trusty device led him to the spot where the gold nugget lay hidden.
Richard followed protocol by informing the landowner and reaching out to the local Finds Liaison Officer to ensure that the find was properly recorded and evaluated through the treasure process.
Hiro’s Nugget has entered the auction scene with an estimated value ranging from £30,000 to £40,000.
The proceedings will be distributed between the landowner and the finder.
The discovery has placed K C Rally’s on the map, showcasing the potential for remarkable finds within the metal detecting community.
