MEMBERS of Droitwich’s SPArkles WI are celebrating signing up their 51st member.

It comes as the group moves its operations to a bigger premises.

In September SPArkles moved from the Old Library, Ombersley Street East, to Spectrum Days, Old Coach Road for the monthly meetings.

At its latest meeting, SPArkles enjoyed a talk from Bromsgrove’s Ian Northcott who runs the charity Socks and Chocs.

Members had knitted socks and hats and donated chocolates for the charity which helps homeless people keep warm, safe and keep off the streets.

President Karen Philpott said: “We were sad to leave the Old Library but it only has room for 50 people – and sometimes our meetings were quite active with Morris dancers and self defence lessons, so we decided to move.

“We really have grown since we were formed in 2012 and now we have lots of room for even more SPArkles.

Sparkles WI’s Bucket Club was hoping to hit the jackpot when it went to bingo.

Unfortunately members left Rubery Great Park’s Gala with nothing, but had lots fun!

Bucket Club allows ladies to float ideas of activities they would like to do to see who else is up for it.

SPArkles President Karen Philpott said: “We’ve done everything from wind-surfing and bee-keeping to alpaca walking and spa days.

“We have ice-skating and a ghost walk in the diary too –  it’s a chance to tick things off our bucket list but I have still yet to meet Daniel Craig.”
