A BENCH will be placed in Vines Park in memory of Allen Green, the man who died in a tragic boating accident on the Droitwich Junction Canal last year.
And, as part of the fund-raising for the memorial bench, a Musical Bingo night will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday, June 27, at the Gardeners Arms, Vines Lane.
It has been organised by the Worcester, Birmingham and Droitwich Canal Society and the Droitwich Waterways Trust.
There will be five or six rounds of ‘Musical Bingo’ during the evening with entrants paying £1 per round to raise funds for the bench which will be near the Droitwich canal.
The Gardeners Arms has offered its outside marquee free of charge and is supplying a supper of pork baps or a vegetarian option at just £4.50 per head.
Families and children are welcome to go along and take part.
Allen was 49 when he died on July 25 last year. The barge sank and filled up with water in Lock 5 of the town’s canal.
Simon Berry, the landlord of the Gardeners Arms, said: “Allen was a person who was well-known in Droitwich and it will be nice to have a bench in Vines Park right by the canal where people can go to remember him.
“It will be a memorial for someone who tragically lost his life and was taken too soon.”
