Mole-mapping machine in memory of brave Droitwich man Mike Hull set to be unveiled at QE

THE MOLE-mapping machine in memory of Droitwich man Mike Hull is set to be unveiled on Tuesday, May 23.

Mike, who passed away last March after his melanoma battle, strove during his life to make a mole-mapping machine more accessible.

During a tenacious campaign, numerous fund-raising events were held and donations pledged.

People concerned about the moles on their skin will be able to have them scanned by the state-of-the-art machine, enabling melanoma to be diagnosed earlier and ensure the patient gets treatment in good time.

Mike always said if he had undergone a scan, his melanoma would have been caught earlier and he could have had a different outcome.

The mole-mapping machine will be based at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital so it can be available to everyone across the Midlands who needs it.

Mike’s wife Carol Hull said: “Everyone will benefit from this – patients from Worestershire are often sent to the QE for other procedures.

“This machine would have made a massive difference to Mike’s diagnosis and if it had been caught earlier then his melanoma probably would not have been at stage three.”

On the campaign reaching its £58,000 fund-raising target, Carol added: “There were times when I didn’t think we would get to this point.

“I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who donated and helped with fund-raising events – you have fulfilled Mike’s wish – it’s just sad he wasn’t here to see it.

“It’s a beautiful legacy to leave behind – one that saves lives.”
