Motorcyclist dies after Droitwich crash

Tristan Harris 28th Apr, 2020 Updated: 28th Apr, 2020

A MOTORCYCLIST died in a crash in Droitwich on Monday afternoon.

A police officer was travelling in a marked police car to an emergency when the Yamaha scooter ahead of him in the same lane crashed into a tree in Primsland Way.

Two ambulances, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford and the West Mercia Police helicopter were all sent to the scene.

The 21-year-old from Worcester was in a critical condition and was immediately given advanced life support by paramedics when they arrived.

But, nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road remained closed for around six hours whilst the emergency services, including the police helicopter, responded to the incident.

Supt Steph Brighton said: “We are aware there is some natural speculation in the community surrounding the circumstances of this incident and the proximity of a police car.

“The officer was responding to a separate incident at the time.

“However, due to the proximity of the police car we have referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, as is standard practice.

“We cannot even begin to imagine how difficult this is for the young man’s family and our thoughts are with them and his friends.”

Any witnesses to the collision who have not yet spoken to officers should call police on 101.
