MP FOR Mid Worcestershire Nigel Huddlleston has pledged to help stamp out prejudice in society by signing the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment.
The signing coincides with Friday’s Holocaust Memorial Day which remembers those murdered during the Holocaust and pays tribute to the extraordinary survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people on the subject.
Friday marks the anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration and death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, the site of the largest mass murder in history.
In the lead up to and on Holocaust Memorial Day, thousands of commemorative events are organised by schools, faith groups and community organisations across the country.
This year’s theme is ‘How can life go on?’
Mr Huddleston said: “Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for people across the country to reflect on the tragic events of the Holocaust.
“I would strongly encourage the people of Mid Worcestershire to get involved in any way they can and take time to reflect on the cruelty and suffering, as well as the courage and endurance, that permeated this terrible chapter in human history.”
Karen Pollock MBE, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust, said: “Our mission is to educate young people from every background about the Holocaust and its contemporary relevance.”
She added they were grateful to Mr Huddleston for signing the Book of Commitment which remembered the victims and challenged antisemitism, prejudice and bigotry in all its forms.
