A NEW vehicle-activated monitoring sign has been installed on Salwarpe Road which is statistically one of the worst roads in the Droitwich for drivers breaking the speed limit.
The funding for the device – some £2,090 – was paid for by the West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion.
It follows concerns raised by Coun Richard Morris and calls for more to be done to get drivers to ‘do the right thing’ and slow down.
The sign flashes up a message to vehicles which are breaching the road’s 30mph limit as they approach it.
It also features a datalogger so important information on vehicles speeds can be recorded and downloaded.
Mr Campion said: “Too many people die or are seriously injured on our roads.
“I hope this new vehicle-activated sign will help to tackle high speeds along Salwarpe Road.
“Road safety continues to be at the heart of my work as commissioner with my focus on tackling inappropriate speed and driver behaviour. “Schemes such as this are a vital tool to make sure we reduce the life changing impact of poor driver behaviour on our roads.”
Coun Morris, from Worcestershire County Council, said: “I was pleased to show Mr Campion around the Salwarpe Road area in Droitwich and discuss a numbers of traffic concerns.
“I appreciate his support in funding the vehicle activated road sign to try and reduce traffic speeds on one of the worst roads for speeding in Droitwich according to the safer roads team.
“I also appreciate all the hard work undertaken by the Town Clerk and highways liaison officers to bring this about.”
