New Gentle Chance to Dance sessions for the those 75 and over at Droitwich Leisure Centre

NEW weekly dance classes specifically tailored for those aged 75 and over will take place in Droitwich from Thursday, September 14.

The Gentle Chance to Dance sessions run every Thursday at Droitwich Leisure Centre.

Participants will be able to improve their fitness levels whilst having fun.

They are being run by Dancefest which has already operated sessions for those aged 55 and over at the leisure centre for the last 12 months.

Those who have taken part say they have seen improvements in their health, fitness and wellbeing which has led to the new classes being started.

The sessions will be run by Marie Oldaker who has lots of experience and has been teaching classes in Eckington and at Pershore Number 8 for several years, as well as leading classes for people living with Parkinson’s, Stroke survivors, and in care homes for people living with dementia.

Marie said: “Dancefest’s Chance to Dance classes target flexibility, coordination and balance, with exercises and routines from different dance styles.

“All the dances can be adapted to suit, and can be danced sitting on a chair.

“The sessions will be based around fun and fitness, at a pace that suits the group, and dancers can stop and catch their breath whenever they need to.

“I’ll combine some upbeat dance exercises with gentler pieces and use all sorts of musical styles, so there should be something for everyone.”

Tickets for the sessions are £4.80 – the 55+ class runs between midday and 1pm and the Gentle Chance to Dance for those 75+ is from 2pm to 3pm.

The project is supported by Wychavon District Council as part of its Get Wychavon Active programme.
