New plans for a £900,000 village hall in Tibberton to go on display

EXCITING new plans for a £900,000 village hall in Tibberton will go on display for the first time between 4pm and 6.30pm on Wednesday, August 15.

The current hall on Plough Road, where the drawings will be exhibited, has come to the end of its life and is deemed no longer fit for purpose.

The new building will be larger, more energy efficient, have more car parking spaces and meet the future needs of the village’s expanding population.

The majority of the funding has been secured for the hall, including £440,000 from Tibberton Community Land Trust (CLT), £96,000 from Tibberton Parish Council’s reserves, £9,000 from a Wychavon District Council and a £18,112 New Homes Bonus grant from Wychavon.

The parish council is in the process of applying for the remaining cash through a public works loan.

The new hall will provide a range of activities for all ages in Tibberton and the neighbouring villages.

Oddingley recently lost its hall which also served Dunhampstead, Shernal Green and Hadzor.

The current hall already accommodates Oddingley and District WI, Oddingley Gardening Club and the Brownies pack which covers a larger area.

An after school club for Tibberton First School pupils has been earmarked, a pre-school scheme may also be developed and there will be activities for older people to help avoid social isolation which has become more of a danger since the village shop and post office were closed.

The village hall is one part of the overall Tibberton CLT scheme started in 2012.

The CLT has been working with Wychavon District Council and Rooftop Housing Group.

It has already provided ten affordable homes let to local residents, four market houses and will be providing land for allotments.

Coun Margaret Rowley, who is a parish and district councillor and vice-chair of the Tibberton CLT, said: “I am looking forward to sharing the proposed plans for the long-awaited new village hall with local residents on Wednesday.”

Representatives from Tibberton Parish Council, the CLT and Wernick Buildings, the company undertaking the project, will be on hand to answer questions.

The parish council will take residents comments into account before making a final decision at a public meeting on August 21.
