New Droitwich volunteers needed for police's South Worcestershire advisory group

Droitwich Editorial 27th Sep, 2024   0

WEST Mercia Police are on the hunt for new independent advisors in South Worcestershire.

The force are looking for volunteers to join its South Worcestershire Independent Advisory Group (IAG) who will be implemented in Worcester, Evesham, Pershore, Droitwich, Kempsey, Tenbury Wells, Upton-upon-Severn and surrounding areas.

The group is made up of trusted individuals of all ages and backgrounds who act as independent advisors to the police.

IAG members constructively advise West Mercia Police on their policies, procedures and practices and how to enhance them so that policing performance is improved.

As a member of the South Worcestershire IAG, you would be asked to provide feedback on police policy, projects and actions from a personal perspective as a receiver of police services and as a member of the community.

You must have the ability and willingness to give impartial, constructive advice to police and offer solutions around current force priorities and focuses.

You should live or work in South Worcestershire and be able to volunteer for a few hours every couple of months to share your opinions and advice on policing matters.

Chair of South Worcestershire IAG Chris Mair said: “Our role as an independent voice, offering constructive commentary and advice across a range of policing policies and activities is both valued and respected.

“We welcome members from across all our communities. This means we can provide the broadest, unbiased response and commentary on the many matters put before us acting as ‘critical friends’ to benefit neighbourhood policing.”

Fellow IAG member Sue Haywood who joined the group to ‘contribute to the local community’ has described the role as ‘rewarding’.

She added: “I believe IAGs can provide an important voice to leaders and decision makers in West Mercia, and it is very rewarding to be part of that.

“You don’t have to have the incredible experience that many colleagues have though. I don’t, but I still feel very welcomed and valued as a member.”
