NHS and key worker 'thank you' message on Wychavon's bin lorries

BIN lorries heading around Droitwich will be carrying a special thank you to the NHS, key workers and the public.

One side of each of the Wychavon vehicles have been decorated with a rainbow and the message.

On the other side of each one there is a thank you message from crews and a suggestion of how people can support the service by reducing their waste, reusing items and recycling as much as they can.

Wychavon staff and their contractor FCC Environment joined forces to create the special tribute as a thank you to all NHS and adult social care staff, as well as other key workers, for their efforts in tackling the Coronavirus crisis.

Crew members also wanted to show their appreciation for the support they have received from residents, who have been leaving thank you messages on bins, on social media or waving to them as they carry out their rounds.

Coun Emma Stokes, responsible for environment on Wychavon District Council, said: “Our bin lorries are so visible they seemed the perfect ‘vehicle’ for showing our NHS and social care staff – and all key workers – how much we appreciate everything they are doing for us all in responding to the coronavirus outbreak.”

FCC Environment contract manager Paul Farmer added: “As key workers ourselves, we know only too well the pressures managing a fast changing situation like this can bring and it is important to take a moment to say thank you, to everyone who is working hard to keep us safe and healthy.

“The crew have been really touched by the way the public has reacted to them so to share the sentiment with others and thank the NHS felt the right thing to do.”
